Launched on November 1, 2025, by Ripio — a crypto platform operating in Latin America since 2013 — wARS is a fully collateralized stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the Argentine peso (ARS). It is part of the wFiat suite, a family of six local-currency stablecoins issued by a Ripio subsidiary that also includes wBRL (Brazilian real), wMXN (Mexican peso), wCOP (Colombian peso), wPEN (Peruvian sol), and wCLP (Chilean peso).
wARS is an ERC-20 token deployed across six EVM-compatible blockchains: Ethereum, Base, World Chain, Polygon, BSC, and Gnosis. Each wARS token is backed by an equivalent amount of Argentine pesos held in reserves at regulated financial institutions. The token can be minted and redeemed through Ripio's infrastructure, maintaining its peg through direct collateralization rather than algorithmic mechanisms.
The wFiat project was designed to address a specific gap in the stablecoin ecosystem. While USD-pegged stablecoins dominate the market, users in Latin America often need to transact, save, and build in their local unit of account. wARS allows Argentine users and businesses to move pesos on-chain without converting to US dollars, reducing friction and FX costs in everyday transactions.
Key use cases for wARS include local-currency transfers, where users can send and receive Argentine pesos instantly across supported networks at lower costs than traditional banking rails. The token also facilitates cross-border remittances and foreign exchange flows by enabling on-chain movement of value with fiat conversion only at the endpoints. In decentralized finance, wARS can be traded, provided as liquidity, and used in lending and borrowing protocols across supported chains. For businesses, wARS supports local-currency treasury management, B2B settlements, and on/off-ramp operations.
wARS is available on Ripio Exchange with integrated on/off-ramp rails, allowing users to convert between Argentine pesos and wARS directly. Market making is active on Uniswap on Ethereum, World Chain, and Base. The token is also supported in third-party wallets on Ethereum, World Chain, and Base, with price feed integration in progress.
The wFiat whitepaper, published in October 2025, outlines the technical architecture and reserve framework for all six stablecoins. The minting infrastructure is operational across all six chains, with the Ethereum deployment originating at block 23527321.
Ripio has distributed wARS and other wFiat tokens through both retail and B2B channels, including integration with World App and partnerships with Argentine financial platforms such as IOL. The broader wFiat suite serves millions of users across Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and Chile.
On the project roadmap, the team plans to deploy contracts on additional EVM chains, launch dedicated bridges for cross-chain liquidity and treasury rebalancing, and pursue deeper integrations with DeFi protocols such as Uniswap and Aave. On the payments side, the project aims to enable merchant acceptance, QR-based payments, and consumer wallet integrations so users can hold and spend in their local currency.
The wFiat stablecoins are governed by a Ripio subsidiary and operate under Ripio's compliance framework across its six markets of operation. Additional project information, social channels, and technical documentation are available through Ripio's official website and the wFiat whitepaper.
